  • We started the year with 50 stores
    and ended with 98!
  • That means that 48 women like Ana Have
    been able to earn an income by being the
    BOSS
  • These women are investing their income
    back into their stores.
  • They are hiring neighbors to build walls
    around their Mercado Fresco stores to keep
    them safe and attract customers
  • With their new
    income, they are
    buying mattresses for
    their families.
  • They are providing more consistent nutrition
    to their children.
  • They are saving to install floors or toilets.
  • Elvira and some of the other Mercado
    Fresco operators are earning up to
    $8.00/day
  • which is double, or triple, what they were
    making before becoming operators.
  • In 2016, we saw a 12% increase
    in sales per store,
  • which can be attributed to an increase in
    high-demand products at excellent margins.
  • Our stores now
    carry 114
    products.
  • Now that our woman are making more
    money, for the first time ever, they have
    the option to save.
  • So this year we began a savings program,
    and 72% of our operators signed up!
  • Looking forward to
    2017, we have over
    500 applicants
    waiting for the
    opportunity to earn
    an income.
  • This year we will focus on scaling up to 250
    total Mercado Fresco stores in Managua,
  • and developing a new micro-franchise so we
    can continue to create more opportunities
    in this city.
  • We will also begin planning for a launch of
    our programs in neighboring countries like
    Guatemala and EI Salvador.
